Mission Hall Design

See the illustrative video below to learn more about Mission Hall and ABW, including examples of how to work in an ABW environment, and services offered at Mission Hall.

The newest building at Mission Bay is Mission Hall, completed in September 2014. Mission Hall houses a learning center on the first floor and a work place for faculty and staff on floors two through seven.

Mission Hall is transitioning from an Activity-Based Workplace (ABW) design to Open Plan Design. Open Plan Design features multiple types of spaces including focus rooms, huddle rooms, shared break out areas and small private offices. The small private offices will be available to some faculty and staff who meet the criteria defined by the Open Plan Task Force Report Recommendations. More information will be posted here as soon as transitions are complete at Mission Hall.

Open Plan Design is based on the following key elements:

  • Efficient, open space for maximum flexibility of layout;
  • Defined spaces for privacy, meetings, conferences, collaboration and community, in addition to a dedicated workstation or small private office;
  • A variety of spaces to support a variety of work styles;
  • Access to natural light and views for all
