Joan and Sanford I. Weill Neurosciences Building

The Joan and Sanford I. Weill Neurosciences Building will be the headquarters for the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences, established by Joan and Sanford I. "Sandy" Weill, which unites four UCSF departments - Neurology, Psychiatry, Neurodegenerative Diseases and Neurological Surgery - as well as the Neuroscience Graduate Program. The new six-story building will house state-of-the-art research laboratories, as well as clinics for patients with brain and nervous system disorders. Construction is scheduled to continue through spring 2020.

  • Six-story building in 274,000 gross square feet (gsf)
  • Wet and dry lab research space
  • Multidisciplinary outpatient space as a "Hub" and Imaging on ground floor
  • Neuroscience Learning Center on ground floor
  • Home for Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) on third floor
  • Neurology outpatient clinics and Infusion site on second and third floors
  • Clinical research space
  • Academic faculty office and institute offices
  • Located on Block 23A between Campus Way and Gene Friend Way.
  • A committee with representatives from Weill Institute for Neurosciences, Academic Senate and other stakeholders will provide recommendations and ensure newly developed principles for programming, designing and governing the building will incorporate input from future occupants.
